What are the key academic skills tested on the SSAT and ISEE?
The key academic skills tested on the SSAT's Math, Reading and Verbal sections are:
- Logic (Analogies)
- Reading Comprehension (Passage Analysis)
- Reading Comprehension (Math Word Problems)
- Essay Writing
The key academic skills tested on the ISEE's Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, and Math Achievement sections are:
- Sentence Completion
- Logical Reasoning
- Pattern Recognition (Word Problems and Quantitaive Comparison)
- Short Passages
- Data Analysis
Ivy Global’s instructors work with our students on strategies for improving
each of these skills in depth. We tailor our sessions to the student’s
individual strengths and weaknesses while giving a thorough grounding in all
the material tested on the exam.
What is included in the One-on-One SSAT/ISEE Preparation Tutoring Package?
Our One-on-One SSAT/ISEE Preparation program offers the following resources:
- 20 hours of one-on-one tutoring with a tutor specialized in the SSAT or
ISEE, typically at the student’s home or at our locations in Silicon
Valley or New York
- Two complete diagnostic tests and analysis of results to maximize improvement
- Complete study materials including flashcards, study guides, strategy
exercises, and practice questions written by Ivy Global tutors
What is a typical tutoring session like?
The atmosphere is best described as friendly, intense, and engaging. We
generally begin by taking up the homework and reviewing the vocabulary assigned
in the previous session. Then, the majority of the sessions are spent learning
and practicing new material. Early sessions in the package tend to be devoted
to reviewing and developing the basic skills tested on the exam: arithmetic,
basic algebra, geometry, word problems, vocabulary, logic, essay writing,
and strategic reading comprehension. Later sessions hone these skills, focus
on areas of continuing difficulty, and offer additional techniques and strategies
for maximizing the student’s score. Later sessions also tend to incorporate
longer sections of the practice exams as homework to develop time management
skills and ensure that the student is very familiar with the format of the

Students can arrange to drop in and observe one session of a
course currently running in their location, as long as this is authorized by our office. Please
call to schedule.
What is your registration and cancellation policy?
We offer partial refunds for cancellations made at least 1 week prior to
the class start. For refunds involving any of our services, a 5% administration
fee will be applied.
